Did you know that the UK's single largest carbon emitter and the world’s biggest tree burner, Drax, has submitted a bid for public money to power an AI data centre using its tree burning?

Drax’s bid is just one of hundreds that have been submitted to receive Government funding for ‘AI growth zones’ across the UK, but which companies are behind these funding applications and what are the environmental, social and climate impacts of this expansion in AI data centres?

To find out more and to discuss whether AI data centres are a help or a hindrance to the UK’s transition to clean energy, please join Friends of the Earth, Global Action Plan, Beyond Fossil Fuels, Biofuelwatch and Stop Burning Trees between 12.30 and 1.30pm BST on Thursday 25th September.

We’re delighted to be joined by special guest speakers Mary Stevens from Friends of the Earth, Oliver Hayes from Global Action Plan and Jill McArdle from Beyond Fossil Fuels who will discuss the hidden impacts of AI data centres on communities, wildlife and the climate and share how we can take action.

We’re also very excited to be joined by Merry Dickinson from Stop Burning Trees who will share how we can call on the Government to say no to Drax’s tree-burning data centre bid.

Everyone is very welcome!
