Three Planning Commissioner Nominees 7/27/2026

Board of Supervisors President Rafael Mandelman has named his three picks to the San Francisco Planning Commission:

  1. Malea Chavez, Chief Program Officer of MEDA
  2. Elizabeth Macdonald, Professor at UC Berkeley
  3. Joel Koppel, IBEW and former Planning Commissioner
SF YIMBY strongly believes that in this moment we need bold leaders willing to radically rethink the role that SF planning Commission plays in advancing policies and proposals to address our longstanding housing shortage. These commissioners nominations fall far short of that need for urgency and we urge all YIMBYs and proponents of real housing reform to voice their opposition to these nominees.

The Mayor has nominated Mike Chen, Director at SF Muni. He has fought for real reforms necessary to resolve the shortage. We strongly support Mike Chen for this seat and urge all supporters to voice their support for him.
