Too Many Cars - Birmingham

Start: Monday, March 23, 2020 6:00 PM

End: Monday, March 23, 2020 8:00 PM

Across the UK, the car remains king. In our streets, our neighbourhoods, government transport budgets and urban architectures – the primacy of individualised car ownership has become culturally dominant. In our cities, we are left with soaring air pollution, inadequate public transport, congested streets and rising greenhouse gas emissions. Motor advertising plays a central role in re-enforcing the status symbol of the car.

Join Brandalism and Adblock Brum as we explore the relationship between car advertising, air pollution and climate breakdown.

Why do car adverts typically show lots of space, empty roads, wild mountain passes, exotic beaches and close ups of leather interiors? What are transport solutions being proposed in Birmingham and the UK?

Birmingham City Council seem to think that a congestion charge will solve our problems. What do you think?

How can we respond to misleading car adverts to create breathable neighbourhoods, liveable streets and high quality urban transport and active travel?

There'll be food, short films, presentations and ideas for action.
