Lack of affordable housing is displacing New Yorkers at an alarming rate across the state, including here in the Hudson Valley, and handouts to for-profit developers have brought us nowhere close to addressing the crisis. While we work on immediate solutions, such as passing Good Cause Eviction to protect tenants from price-gouging and changing zoning laws that restrict options for affordable housing, we must also create a state social housing development authority that uses union labor to build permanently affordable, green, and high quality housing that caps housing cost at 25% of income, reinvesting the benefits back into New Yorkers.
