"Train the Trainer" Globalization Workshop - Jan 27th
Start: 2016-01-27 18:00:00 UTC Eastern Time (US & Canada) (GMT-05:00)
This is a virtual event
This workshop uses content from the AFL-CIO Common Sense Economics program.
Globalization is an ongoing economic process. Left unchecked it takes on a life of its own and corporations—rather than nations—become principal stewards of the world and everything in it.
Men and women who live and work in nations the world over are reduced to being nothing more than a commodity—labor—factored into the production cost of goods and services. Human rights and the common good take a back seat to corporate profits. And privatization of public resources—such as the very water we drink—becomes the new normal.
Trade agreements drive globalization by cutting through the pesky red tape we call democracy. Laws passed by nations to protect the health and well-being of their citizens and the world in which we live can be challenged if they interfere with corporate profits.
Multilateral (many country) trade deals can enable a single corporation to replace multiple governments as decision-maker on matters that affect the common good, replacing the rule of law (government by the people) with corporate rule.
People Demanding Action has taken the AFL-CIO’s 3-hour in-person Common Sense Economics Globalization Workshop and adapted it for a guided online leadership training to run in half the time (90 minutes) of in-person group trainings. By registering to be among the first leaders trained you agree to complete your online training and to provide feedback in the form of an evaluation immediately afterward, for purposes of content/format improvement.
