Two-Child Benefit Cap and NRPF: Campaign Planning Meeting
Join this critical planning meeting to address the devastating impacts of the Two-Child Benefit Cap and No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) policies on families in the North East of England. Together, you will strategize actions to hold local leaders accountable and push for meaningful change.
Why These Policies Matter:
- Increased Child Poverty: Newcastle, particularly the West End, already faces high child poverty rates. The Two-Child Benefit Cap exacerbates this, making it harder for larger families to meet basic needs and pushing more children into poverty.
- Families with More Than Two Children Suffer the Most: Many families in our region have more than two children and are hit the hardest by the cap, losing essential financial support for their additional children.
- NRPF Compounds the Crisis: Families with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) are barred from accessing critical government support, leaving them vulnerable to financial insecurity, poor health outcomes, and deeper poverty.
- Minimal Savings, Maximum Harm: The financial savings from the Two-Child Benefit Cap are insignificant compared to the profound harm inflicted on vulnerable families.
The Strategy:
You will develop a comprehensive timeline, plan actions, escalate our efforts, and identify key allies in the fight against these unjust policies.
- Advocate for Policy Change: You will call on Mayor Kim McGuinness, Councillor Alex Hay, and Newcastle City Council to advocate for the removal of NRPF restrictions and oppose the Two-Child Benefit Cap.
- Photo Petition: If 70% of our members agree, you will organize a photo petition to visually demonstrate widespread support. You'll ask participants to take a photo with family or friends to be included in our petition, which will be delivered directly to our local leaders
- Escalation Plan: you will discuss and plan a “back to school” action to coincide with the end of the summer holidays, using the momentum to further our cause.
Your participation is vital. Together, you can demand a fairer system that supports all children, regardless of their family size or immigration status.
