In 1987, after years of mourning and burying their lovers and friends, a group of New Yorkers decided to stand up and focus their rage and anger towards the people in power who had been ignoring the AIDS epidemic. Described by L.A. Kauffman as “the most innovative, influential, and effective radical organization of the late twentieth century”, the Aids Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) saved millions with their actions by forcing the governments, scientists, and corporations to increase spending on AIDS research and make life-saving drugs more available.
Join the Community Defense Working Group for a screening of the documentary UNITED IN ANGER: A HISTORY OF ACT UP and see how ACT UP used militant and radical direct action and civil disobedience to achieve their goals and change the world.
UNITED IN ANGER: A HISTORY OF ACT UP is a unique feature-length documentary that combines startling archival footage that puts the audience on the ground with the activists and remarkably insightful interviews from the ACT UP Oral History Project to explore how a small group of men and women of all races and classes came together to change the world and save each other’s lives.
