On January 24th, 2026, a Border Patrol officer murdered Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. Alex was a VA ICU nurse, union member, and public servant who dedicated his life to caring for others. And he was executed by ICE for it. We are gathering to mourn and celebrate his life, call for justice for Alex Pretti and all victims of ICE and Border Patrol, and show solidarity with Minneapolis and the nurses right here in New York City who are on strike demanding a contract that ensures nurse and patient safety.

Please join us Thursday, January 29 at 5pm at the Manhattan VA hospital for a candlelight vigil for Alex. We will gather on the sidewalk in front of the Manhattan VA. We will have some candles, but ask that you bring your own light sources if you have them already. We plan to have speakers from the nursing community, the VA system, the NYC immigration advocacy community, and NYC labor.
