Amid headlines about “rigged” elections, “Stop the Steal,” and efforts to “save” democracy by restricting access to the ballot, it can be hard to separate myth from reality. This 90‑minute session is designed to slow things down and walk you through what really happens before, during, and after an election in Pennsylvania.
We’ll be joined by Forrest Lehman, Director of Elections and Registration for Lycoming County, PA. Mr. Lehman is known among his peers for his deep, working knowledge of Pennsylvania’s election procedures and his ability to explain them in plain language.
Together, we will explore:
- How voter registration actually works in PA, including how rolls are maintained and updated.
- What happens to your mail‑in or in‑person ballot from the moment you receive it to the moment it’s counted.
- The safeguards that exist at every stage of the process to prevent fraud, tampering, or error.
- Common myths and misunderstandings about election security in Pennsylvania — and what the law actually says.
- Where real vulnerabilities exist, and how election officials are working to address them.
This session is designed to be practical and interactive. You are invited to bring:
- Your questions about voting and registration.
- Your own experiences from past elections.
- Your worries and concerns about election integrity in PA.
Mr. Lehman will lay out the logic behind Pennsylvania’s election system and respond to questions as we go. You do not need any prior expertise — just curiosity and a desire to understand how our democracy functions at the local level.
Who this is for
- Voters who want to feel more confident about how their ballot is handled.
- Community leaders, organizers, and volunteers who get questions about election security.
- Anyone who wants to replace fear and confusion with grounded, accurate information.
