Rally to Stop the Atrium Takeover of WakeMed

Save WakeMed

Join other patients from our community to rally against the proposed takeover of WakeMed by multi-billion dollar hospital chain Atrium. The Wake County Commissioners’ next meeting is Monday, September 21 at 2pm and they could vote on whether to allow this deal to move forward.

We need the County Commissioners to stand up for the people of Wake County and stop this takeover—which is right out of the private equity playbook, just with a nonprofit face.

WakeMed acknowledged in its letter to the Governor that Atrium’s $2 billion “investment” is **not new funding from Atrium**. It would come first from WakeMed’s own revenues, debt financing, and other sources—with Atrium only covering any remaining shortfall.

They will raise our prices. Six years after taking over Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, their prices have grown 8% more than the average for the state. And they are cutting nurse compensation in critical areas like labor and delivery while their CEO makes at least $25 million a year.

They have refused to allow the public to see the deal. If it’s such a good deal for our community, we say do an open bidding process and we’ll know it’s a good deal.

Join us on Monday, September 21 at 12:30pm to say NO TAKEOVER!
