What: Wednesday March 19, the National Education Association has called for a “Walk-In to to Protect Our Students and Families”. Join Badass Teachers Association and National Educators United for a “Walk-In 101: Everything You Need to Know” to learn about how to organize your own walk-in.
The NEA is calling on educators and communities to “…walk into our schools together, showing elected leaders that we are united in support of the programs and protections our schools and students need to thrive.” But what exactly is a walk-in? How do you organize one? And what can you do if you're not ready to participate?
Join BATs and NEU for a quick how-to session, with special guest speaker and #RedforEd Arizona Strike Leader Rebecca Garelli, to hear how Arizona Educators United (AEU) successfully organized walk-ins at school sites!
Why Now? Public Education is Under Attack:
The Trump administration recently fired or forced out around 2,000 Department of Education workers, or 50% of its workforce, with the layoffs disproportionately targeting financial aid, civil rights and education research teams.
Teachers' right to “Teach the Truth” is under attack with curriculum censorship, limits on collective bargaining, and a new government-run website urging parents to report “woke” educators.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement have carried out more than 32,000 arrests of immigrants in the first 50 days of the Trump administration. These arrests will overwhelmingly affect families whose students attend public schools.
Transgender and nonbinary people’s right to gender affirming care, participation in school sports, representation in school curriculum, and other rights are under attack.
The Trump administration plans to cut some 2 million federal jobs through firings or forced layoffs. If the federal workers unions are busted, all unions will be under attack.
This is the moment to stand together. Our Walk-In 101 session will break down exactly how to take action—whether you’re ready to organize a walk-in or looking for other ways to support the movement.
We’re excited to get people mobilizing!
In solidarity,
Badass Teachers Association and National Educators United
