We Are America March

Last fall we marched to DC. This spring, we march again!

We Are America marchers do not march with demands just for our government. Americans are conditioned to believe the immediate result of anti-fascist resistance is political change, expecting these demands of impeachment, funding adjustments, Congressional checks and balances to change the tide of a nation. WAAM understands that political change needs to start as change to American society itself. Our marchers share the conviction that a society built on exclusion and injustice is not tenable.

So WAAM’s does make demands of our fellow Americans because this is going to make time and effort. Marching is a demonstration of our shared responsibility to care for one another when our government has failed us time and time again.

Nonetheless, we do have some straightforward demands of our government and our elected officials. And if they don't have the courage, we will provide it!

1.     Obey the Constitution and due process. Our leaders serve our constitution and the bill of rights, not a ruler.  

2.     Voting Rights for All. Strengthen our Democracy. Automatic voter registration. Federal voting holiday.  

3. Check on Emergency Powers. Emergency authority expires automatically after thirty days unless renewed by super-majority vote of the legislature. Limits on application of Insurrection Act etc.  

We know that Trump and MAGA are likely to pursue the following strategies: Insurrection Act; weaponizing ICE agents or other military assets at polling locations to intimidate ppl; and using Federal agencies to pursue political enemies and their infrastructure. We must advocate for legislation which heads all of this off. Provide the broad foundation of support for this advocacy to begin. Pro-Democracy. Pro-voting. Pro-constitutional rights. Basically, our demands boil down to three things:  

1. Advance voting rights access and the pro-democracy movement (in a way with clear language that can’t be subverted by the opposition)  

2. Head off all avenues he can pursue to declare an insurrection act or engage in other activities to subvert democracy.

3. Impeach,convict, and remove Donald Trump from the office of President of the United States.

But circling back to being in this for the long haul, we invite you to our

Pre-Rally Democracy Festival

It will be taking place at 333 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20001, right next to the George Gordon Meade Memorial.

It will be taking place from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM!

Come meet local activist groups and see how you can get involved as well as attend some classes on the following topics:

• Civil disobedience
• Economic boycotting and how to prepare for a general strike
• Citizen lobbying
• Safety Marshaling
• & More!

As the marchers get closer, we will walk over to Union Square together to welcome them!!!
