The United Federation of Teachers (UFT) invites its members, the community and all supporters of the federal civil service to celebrate May Day this Friday evening as we build the fight to protect public workers and the public we serve! Members and officials of all unions, elected officials and leaders of community organizations participating in May Day activities are especially encouraged to attend to learn more about and join the federal worker fight back as we defend the federal service and the many services we provide!
MAY DAY AFTER PARTY! FRIDAY MAY 1 6:30PM, 52 BROADWAY
FEATURING: A short speakers program to include NYC federal union members organizing to resist agency relocations, union-busting and to save federal services! Food & drinks provided by the UFT.
The Trump administration is taking aim at New York City and they're weaponizing the federal bureaucracy to do it. They terrorize our communities with ICE; they withhold funding for infrastructure projects and attack critical social services, they refuse to enforce civil rights law and equal opportunity protections; the list goes on and on. But there's also deeper, more permanent strategy at play. They seek to privatize every conceivable function of the federal bureaucracy with corporate contractors poised to profit off of government services that are meant to uphold public interests. Whatever government positions remain, they intend to populate with an army of their own political loyalists. From union-busting to the gutting of merit and equity principles, they are using every means at their disposal to remake the administrative branch of government.
Relocations and office closures are a favorite tool of disruption by the Trump Administration.
But federal unions are fighting back--especially in NYC!
When the administration withdrew the Consumer & Financial Protections Bureau from their midtown office early last year, the members of NTEU Chapter 335 continued commuting to the city to stand up the most consistent pickets by federal workers anywhere in the country. After closing the world class NASA climate lab on the upper west side last year members of IFPTE Local 29 have been organizing to get it back. In response to union-busting and the corrosion of scientific integrity at the Environmental Protection Agency, members of AFGE Local 3911 in NYC have helped exact a cost on EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, a New Yorker with his own local political ambitions. Their newest fight is now against an eviction notice to vacate union office inside the federal building at 290 Broadway.
Most recently, coming from the highest levels of political appointees at the Pentagon, the Army Corps of Engineers has been instructed to close its New York District offices at 26 Federal Plaza and reopen at a privately leased commercial building in Newark, New Jersey. This move has provoked the biggest push back yet and a robust bipartisan delegation of New York's federal officials have registered their opposition. But we're going to need much more than that to stop this trend.
The Federal Unionists Network invites the entire NYC labor movement to join us as we say:
WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED!
For the second year in a row, the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) hosts a May Day after-party to celebrate the movement of federal workers standing up to the biggest act of union busting in American history. If 2025 was the year of DOGE, anti-union executive orders, and the wholesale destruction of entire federal agencies, 2026 is shaping up to be a year of countless local battles. As the White House seeks to consolidate its position against federal unions, the attacks are being carried out deep within the federal bureaucracy, including at many agency offices in New York City. The public itself is what's at stake. And public sector unions--from city teachers to federal servants--are standing together to demand an end to the billionaire agenda and a better future for all workers. All are welcome!
