Narratives help us make sense of the world. They shape our beliefs and values, and they can inspire us to take action and spark social change.
Join Ruido Studios on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 6:30 PM for the kick-off to our fall series “Who Runs the Narrative in the RGV?” Through this series, we’ll explore how narratives spread across our border region, particularly through news, independent media, art, and community hubs or “third-spaces”.
As part of our inaugural discussion, we will host a panel titled “Free Speech and Censorship in the RGV”. Corporate and government censorship are on full display. From late night TV shows to schools and nonprofit organizations, storytellers and communicators in the U.S. are experiencing censorship at unprecedented levels. Join us for a panel discussion with local community leaders for their perspectives on what this means for the Rio Grande Valley narrative.
During this event, we will also launch a new database that tracks media outlets in the RGV based on research by our Spring 2025 Ruidosos Fellows. We are proud to collaborate with Jadwa Table as our food vendor for the evening.
