Why is streaming so bad and what can we do about it
This discussion will examine the reasons why musicians, the content creators that streaming services rely on, do not receive an equitable slice of the economic pie. With analysis of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (1998) and specifically section 512 which allows for “Safe Harbors” like Youtube to skew the music market, the panel will discuss the situation music workers find ourselves in and steps to take towards a more equitable framework.
Featuring: Marc Ribot, guitarist and MWA member, Melvin Gibbs, bassist and board member of the Content Creators Coalition, and Neil Turkewitz, arts advocate and copyright law expert.
