Winning a Basic Income for Artists in England: Campaign Launch & Social

Start: Friday, October 23, 202607:00 PM

Location: Pelican House 133 Bethnal Green Road, London, E2 7DG GB

Join us to launch a new Basic Income for Artists campaign in England.

Momentum for a Basic Income for Artists is growing – and the need for the policy has never been more stark. In a sector gripped by precarity, low-pay and long hours, the security offered by an unconditional basic income payment would be transformative, giving artists the means they need to develop their practice, while recognising the vast social value they produce.

However, a basic income isn’t a pipe dream. Over recent years, for governments in Ireland – and now Scotland – a basic income pilot for artists has been recognised as a practical solution to a sector in crisis.

With evidence mounting about the wide social benefits of a Basic Income for Artists, it’s time for England to follow suit! Join us in Bethnal Green to launch the campaign, hear from those involved in the successful push for a Scottish pilot, and celebrate together.

There'll be a panel discussion, followed by social drinks.

Speakers:

  • Helen Carr, Basic Income for Artists England, Artist and activist

  • Cleo Goodman, Political Strategist and activist for Basic Income for Artists Scotland
