Community Workshop: How to Stop Spy Cameras in Hays County

Start: Sunday, October 12, 202504:45 PM

What’s going on?

The Hays County Commissioners Court is considering an item on Tuesday, October 14th, to terminate all of its contracts with Flock Safety. Cities across the state and the country, including San Marcos, Austin, and Lockhart, have recently rejected proposals for surveillance cameras from Flock, a privately owned company. These cameras, called Automated License Plate Readers (ALRPs), scan and record the distinguishing characteristics of every car—including those of our families—that drives by.

They call it “safety.” We call it spying.

It’s time to tell Hays County, cancel the contract with Flock, and say no to spy cameras in our county!

Ground Game Texas will be hosting a workshop this Sunday, at 4:45 at the San Marcos Public Library (625 E Hopkins St, San Marcos, TX 78666), where you can learn more about Flock and ALPRs, as well as how to give public testimony in front of the commissioners court, and join your neighbors in writing emails. We’ll have food, drinks, and experienced local organizers to answer your questions.
