As workers, we know that a better world is not only possible, but necessary. But the way to get to that better world seems long and arduous. How can we, on our own, win a living wage, control over our workplaces, paid sick days, dignified working conditions, and all the other things we need to lead better lives?
The answer is solidarity and community. We need a movement of thousands of workers pushing for the rights we need and deserve. But the path there is hard. How do we, on our own, agitate and organize workers when we're all so isolated from each other?
The secret is there is no secret. It all starts with conversations. Speaking to other workers. Inviting others into the movement. Putting ourselves out there.
That might still seem intimidating on its own. That's why we at WSN want to be there together with you. We want to ensure you have the training, support, and community needed to be able to speak to other workers and invite them organize.
To that end, we want to invite you to join our street outreach team! We conduct regular outreach on a biweekly basis; speak to workers in their workplace, pedestrians on the street, and invite them to join our campaigns. You will never be alone doing outreach with us, we will ensure you always have a WSN staff to support, answer questions, provide training, and help in any other way we can.
Will you join us and other workers to build a movement of workers advocating for their rights?
We will be meeting at 620 View Street at 5pm. We will be reaching out to registrants to let you know how to contact us day of! If you are on the Lower Mainland, check out our Vancouver outreach here.
We recognize that our outreach will take place on the traditional, uncededed, and ancestral territories of the Legwungen people. Colonialism is intrinsically tried to the struggle for worker justice, the same corporations that exploit Indigenous land, resources, water here are the same corporations that drive precarious work. The movement for worker justice is also a movement for Indigenous justice, and we acknowledge the leadership of Indigenous peoples in the struggle for justice since time immemorial.
