The Supreme Court will allow the Department of Defense to start enforcing its ban of military service by transgender people, while legal challenges continue to proceed in lower courts.

With this 5-4 split decision, we’ve now officially seen the beginning of the devastating effects of Brett Kavanaugh’s tenure on the Supreme Court. The Department of Justice is already claiming a victory, saying trans people in the service "poses a risk to military effectiveness and lethality."

To all transgender people, who have been othered by this administration –– and especially those who are currently serving in our military or who have hopes to enlist –– we see you, we acknowledge your pain, and we will do everything we can to fight back against this bigoted policy.
