ACLU- Stop Union Busting! Supporter Sign-on Letter
The ACLU of Kansas is attempting to fire our union chair in retaliation for unionization.
With a heavy heart we write that retaliation against our unionization has deeply intensified in the past few days, with ACLU management forced leave on our union chair and ACLU of Kansas Senior Organizer, Melissa Stiehler, over false allegations. The ACLU of Kansas United union stands strongly behind Melissa. The accusation against her is patently false. She did nothing wrong and this is just the newest method of intimidating ACLU of Kansas workers.
In the last two months, the ACLU of Kansas management has:
denied our federal right to unionize
challenged half the workers’ right to unionize by calling them managers
refused to bargain with us over write-ups
Attempting to fire a worker in retaliation is a shocking new low in management’s tactics against our union.
Add your name to urge the ACLU Board of Directors and Management to “right these wrongs” by ending all anti-worker behavior and reinstating Melissa in her role as the ACLU Senior Organizer!
Here is the sign-on letter that will be delivered to ACLU Executive Director, Nadine Johnson, and Board of Directors:
We are writing as supporters, members, donors, and employees of the American Civil Liberties Union to condemn the anti-worker tactics that have been used against the ACLU of Kansas workers by Management and the Board of Directors.
Over the last two months, we have witnessed the intimidation of workers with such union busting tactics as:
1. Hiring the notorious union busting mega-law firm Ogletree Deakins
2. Filing a jurisdiction challenge to deny your workers the federal right to unionize
3. Challenging half the workers’ right to unionize by incorrectly classifying them managers
4. Writing up workers and refusing to bargain over the terms of discipline
5. Most recently, wrongfully placing the Unit Chair and Senior Organizer, Melissa Stiehler, on forced administrative leave for false accusations
As the ACLU is a member led organization, we as the base of your organization's support demand that you immediately stop all anti-worker union busting tactics, negotiate in good faith, and reinstate Melissa Stiehler in her role as Senior Organizer for the ACLU of Kansas.
