Washington’s tax system is upside down. Families in the bottom 20% pay 13.8% of their income in state and local taxes, while the top 1% pay just 4.1%. Governor Bob Ferguson came out in support of a millionaire's tax, which would apply to fewer than 0.5% of Washingtonians but could raise up to $3 billion a year to invest in schools, healthcare, housing, and public services.
