Your drinking water could be at risk if public lands like our national monuments and forests are opened up to industrial development.

A new report found that drinking water for more than 13 million Americans could be at risk if Congress and the Trump administration continue efforts to roll back protections for national monuments. Meanwhile, more than 60 million Americans get their water from streams that flow from national forests, which are also under threat.

Congress is gutting protections on millions of acres of public lands to make way for oil and gas drilling, logging and other development. This would threaten our drinking water, wildlife and the places where we hike, fish and hunt.

The administration is ramping up attacks, too. The BLM just held its largest Colorado lease sale in recent history — enabling oil drilling across sensitive wildlife areas and near a reservoir that supplies drinking water to more than 400,000 people. The same scenario could play out in communities across the West.
