#AmazonHurts – Street Heat Day of Action

Amazon has scheduled its annual “Prime Day” shopping ‘holiday’ for June 21-22 of this year. Every year on Prime Day, shoppers take advantage of doorbuster sales, Amazon executives celebrate gaining millions of new Prime subscribers, and Amazon workers are pushed to – and beyond – their physical limits as they struggle to keep up with the influx of orders. According to reporting from the Center for Investigative Reporting each year workplace injuries at Amazon spike during Prime Day.
Amazon workers have had enough and they’re calling on the company to end its dangerous “rate” and “time-off-task” surveillance systems. They’re organizing in fulfillment centers and delivery stations around the country, but they can’t be in the streets on Prime Day because Amazon has blocked out time-off requests and is forcing everyone to work on those days. That’s why this year workers are asking supporters to help them continue to expose Amazon as a company that hurts workers.
On Prime Day, in cities around the US, people who support Amazon workers’ demands for safer workplaces will be hitting the streets to hang banners off of bridges and overpasses, posters in high traffic areas and around their communities to make sure that everyone knows that #AmazonHurts workers.
