Angela Gonzales-Torres is running for CA-34. Angela’s campaign is for the working class of Los Angeles. At the forefront of her vision is placing people over profits. She believes that everyone deserves a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home. This means addressing the economic and political conditions that exist on both the local and national levels. She is a lifelong Angeleno, community advocate, Chicana anthropologist, and progressive Democrat who has dedicated her life to fighting for permanent affordable housing, clean air, and real public safety. Throughout her time serving as President of Highland Park’s Neighborhood Council, she has fought against gentrification and its impact on the most vulnerable. She recognizes that these are issues that require not just local organizing and action but national policy changes. Her platform prioritizes housing as a human right, worker’s rights and union growth, decarceration and care-first public safety, protections for immigrants, a fully funded public education system, climate justice, and Medicare for All. She is a proud advocate for Palestinian liberation and an outspoken opponent of US complicity in the war on Gaza. As the daughter of a deportee, who was raised in Northeast LA, she has seen the impacts of the prison-industrial complex and the long-standing attack on immigrants. As a Justice Democrats-endorsed candidate, Angela will join efforts to eliminate corporate money’s influence in our politics and effectively start addressing the growing cost of living.
