Audubon Chapters: Show Support for The Bird Union
A majority of National Audubon Society workers have banded together to form a union. Under the banner Audubon for All, we are seeking recognition from management so we can get to working side by side to build a better Audubon.
A strong majority of non-managerial staff have signed union authorization cards, but Dr. Elizabeth Gray (our Interim CEO, President and Chief Conservation Officer) has so far refused to voluntarily recognize our union. This means we are forced to go to an election with the National Labor Relations Board, a process that often creates negative dynamics.
Can you stand with us by signing on to our letter from chapter leaders encouraging Dr. Elizabeth Gray to accept our union through card check and voluntary recognition so we can begin to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement? This is a process we believe will be amicable and serve to strengthen the organization.
Support from chapter leaders for our union is especially meaningful because you share our commitment to both birds and the organization.
We make this request with deep respect for and commitment to Audubon and its goals. We believe that unionizing and moving forward in a constructive relationship through collective bargaining is consistent with the organization’s values of democracy and inclusion.
Audubon Chapter Support Letter to Dr. Gray:
As a chapter of the National Audubon Society, we request that you respect the decision of a majority of Audubon employees and immediately agree to recognize the union through card check and voluntary recognition. Audubon has some of the smartest, most dedicated staff in conservation, and are the face of Audubon in communities across the country.
