CA DSA Oliver Ma WG Interest Form

California DSA delegates, representing chapters from across the state, have voted to endorse Oliver Ma for Lieutenant Governor. Oliver will be CA DSA’s first-ever endorsed statewide candidate and is running on an explicitly democratic socialist platform that articulates a vision of a California that works for working people—not oligarchs and billionaires.

Oliver Ma is a proven fighter who will struggle for evidence-based policies that lower everyday costs, protect families, and deliver results people can feel. As a civil rights lawyer who has fought against slumlords to defend working families, he will fight for statewide rent control by repealing Contra-Hawkins, repealing the Ellis Act, banning no-fault evictions, supporting the right to counsel for tenants, and cracking down on corporate investors abusing the system.

Oliver’s pro-worker agenda treats our California teachers as the backbone of our communities by offering strong support for unions, smaller class sizes, academic freedom, and investment in rural/low income schools. As a former grievance officer for his union, he will expand AB 288, enforce fair scheduling laws, limit employer surveillance, and advocate for a $21 dollar minimum wage. If the federal government attempts to defund Social Security, he will push CA to create a state-level backstop for seniors and disabled Californians.

One of the primary areas of influence of the Lieutenant Governor is over California’s higher education system. Currently, University of California schools alone have over $32 billion invested in assets tied to genocide and apartheid in Palestine. Not only is Oliver the only candidate to describe the atrocities in Gaza as genocide, he is the only candidate who has promised to divest these funds from Israel and ensure that our higher education institutions are not funding atrocities overseas.

Oliver is committed to building something that lasts beyond his campaign and, in this, building DSA statewide. Oliver understands, like all democratic socialists must, that an organized movement of working people is more than one candidate or one campaign. As chapters across the state have joined CA DSA in endorsing Oliver Ma, meaning the endorsement has become a Tier 1: Priority Campaign and requires a statewide WG for coordination.
