Call the top 3 leaders in NYS: Peoples' lives are at risk - Delay the transition to PPL!

Call Governor Hochul : LET HER KNOW: PPL is NOT READY! WE MUST DELAY BEFORE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF HOME CARE CONSUMERS LOSE THEIR HOME CARE AND HOME CARE WORKERS LOSE THEIR JOBS!

We’re at a crucial moment in the fight to save the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPA) from being transitioned to a single Fiscal Intermediary, PPL.

Home care recipients and home care workers are in danger because Governor Hochul plans to centralize management of a major Medicaid home care program—the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP)—to a for-profit corporation called PPL in a very short time period. Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers could lose their home care and jobs because of this plan.

Recently, a federal court ordered a temporary, three-day halt to the transition, acknowledging what consumers, workers, healthcare providers, advocates, and elected officials from both parties have been saying all along: Governor Hochul's CDPAP transition plan is dangerously flawed.

While the ruling provides temporary relief, we must Call Governor Hochul to heed the warning signs and pass a more substantial delay for the transition deadline, or thousands could lose their care or jobs. Then, Call Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie.

CALL SCRIPT FOR GOVERNOR HOCHUL:

My name is [YOUR NAME] from [YOUR CITY/TOWN]. I'm calling to urge [GOVERNOR HOCHUL/SPEAKER HEASTIE] to defend home care workers and consumers who are imminently at risk due to the state’s rushed transition of CDPAP to PPL. She must delay the transition deadline, or thousands of people will lose their home care and jobs.

The transition to PPL concerns me because... [XXX].

So far, the transition to PPL has been a disaster. In the past three months, less than half of CDPAP’s 280,000 consumers have completed their registration, and estimates are that less than 10% of the 425,000 Personal Assistants in the program have enrolled. Last week, CDPAP’s online enrollment system crashed with an error message reading “too many requests”, and PPL’s phone lines have been jammed for weeks.

I'm calling on Governor Hochul to heed the court’s recent Temporary Restraining Order ruling as a clear warning sign. The fundamental flaws in the CDPAP plan can’t be fixed with minor fixes or short delays, and she must pass a substantial delay to the transition timeline, convene all stakeholders for meaningful input, thoroughly examine the many systematic issues with this plan, and develop a responsible approach that truly protects consumers and workers.

Can I count on Governor Hochul to do right by hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and delay, TRULY delay, the transition?

CALL SCRIPT FOR SENATE MAJORITY LEADER STEWART-COUSINS:

My name is [YOUR NAME] from [YOUR CITY/TOWN]. I'm calling to THANK Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins for defending home care workers and consumers who are imminently at risk due to the state’s rushed transition of CDPAP to PPL. I'm calling to ask her to do everything in her power to delay the transition deadline, or thousands of people will lose their home care and jobs.

The transition to PPL concerns me because... [XXX...please share if you've been struggling to register with PPL].

We know and appreciate that the Majority Leader has been fighting for us behind the scenes. Will Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins be public about her support for a TRUE delay to this transition?
