CALL: Ask your legislators to pass the Packaging Reduction Act this session!

Call now to ask your Legislators to pass the Packaging Reduction Act NOW!

We are so close to passing the groundbreaking Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act this year! Please call your State Senator and State Assemblymember to urge them to sponsor and push for a vote (and vote yes!) on this critical bill to reduce plastic packaging, save taxpayer dollars, protect our health and our environmental justice communities, and tackle climate change.

1. Dial the Assembly Switchboard at 518-455-4100 and ask to be connected to your Assemblymember’s office. If you’re not sure who your Assemblymember is, click here to look them up.

2. When someone answers, please use the script below:

“Hi, my name is NAME. I’m a constituent calling from YOUR TOWN/CITY. I’m calling to urge the Assemblymember to please co-sponsor and push hard to pass The Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act (A1749) as quickly as possible this session. Unfortunately, the Assembly adjourned last June a few hours before voting on this bill and literally, all they have to do now is urge the Speaker to bring it to a vote and vote YES. The Packaging Reduction Act is key to reducing toxic and polluting single-use plastic packaging waste that's filling our bodies with microplastics and toxic chemicals, clogging our landfills, costing us taxpayers a lot of money, speeding up climate change and more. Please ask the Assemblymember to talk to the Speaker to urge him to get this done right now. Thank you."

3. Hang up and repeat the process for your State Senator by dialing the Senate Switchboard at (518) 455-2800 and asking to be connected to your Senator’s office. If you’re not sure who your Senator is, click here to look them up.

4. When someone answers, use the script below:

“Hi, my name is NAME. I’m a constituent calling from YOUR TOWN/CITY. I’m calling to urge the Senator to please co-sponsor and push hard to pass The Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act (A1749) as quickly as possible this session. I'm grateful that the Senate has passed this popular, commonsense bill for the last two years in a row and it would be very helpful if the Senator would speak to the Senate Majority Leader to ask her to please bring it to a vote as soon as possible (before the budget!) The Packaging Reduction Act is key to reducing toxic and polluting single-use plastic packaging waste that's filling our bodies with microplastics and toxic chemicals, clogging our landfills, costing us taxpayers a lot of money, speeding up climate change and more. Please ask the Senator to talk to support this bill and push hard for quick passage of this non-controversial bill this session. Thank you."

5. Once you've hung up, please take a moment to fill out the form on the right to let us know how your calls went -- a very important step!

Thank you so much for helping to increase refill and reuse, boost recycling, protect our health, safeguard the health of environmental justice communities, and stem the tide of plastic pollution in New York State.
