Please make an urgent phone call today to urge your state Assemblymember to vote YES on The Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act (A1749). This critical bill just passed in the State Senate and would reduce plastic pollution, cut single-use packaging waste by 30% over 12 years, reduce climate emissions; ban 17 of the most toxic chemicals and substances used in packaging, save billions in tax dollars over the next 10 years, give recycling a big boost, and advance reuse and refill systems.
1. Dial the Assembly Switchboard at 518-455-4100 and ask to be connected to your Assemblymember’s office. If you’re not sure who your Assemblymember is, click here to look them up.
When someone picks up, you can use this short script (the bolded text below is the critical part if you want to keep it short and sweet):
“Hi, my name is ____ and I’m a constituent calling from _____. I’m calling to urge the Assemblymember to please vote YES on the Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act (Assembly Bill 1749). This popular bill that passed through the Senate on May 28 is long overdue and critical to addressing our solid waste crisis, protecting public health, slowing climate change, and protecting the state's environmental justice communities. Please vote YES and prioritize passage of A1749 before you adjourn on June 18. Thank you.”
2. Once you've hung up, please take a moment to fill out the form on the right to let us know how your calls went -- a very important step!
Thank you so much for helping to stem the tide of plastic pollution in New York State.
