Help us make Cambridge safer for people on bikes
In June 2024, two people biking in Cambridge were killed by trucks. Many people biking are also either hit by opening doors from parked cars ("doorings") or hit while maneuvering around double-parked cars. These dangerous conditions have also resulted in multiple fatal crashes in Cambridge. We need to move with great urgency to improve the safety of our roads and intersections throughout the City.
At the same time, in April, a bare majority of the Cambridge City Council tried to delay critically needed bike and pedestrian safety improvements until 2027. This would delay the installation of separated bike lanes, as well as intersection improvements, on two of the most dangerous streets in Cambridge: Cambridge St and Broadway.
We managed to beat back the delay, limiting it just one year, but the fight isn't over. Opponents are still trying to delay or cancel safe bike infrastructure, now on a project-by-project basis.
