CBA Bonus Clawback

The Commonwealth Bank has sent letters to some employees advising them that their bonuses were "miscalculated" and that they need to repay hundreds of dollars each.

Employees at CBA received an initial letter that told them how much they'd get as a bonus, and that's what they got paid. To turn around now and tell them that they need to pay some of that back because the initial letter and the payments were wrong, is unfair.

The union for bank workers - the Finance Sector Union - will work with employees of CBA to act collectively in this matter.

Union members all over the country are telling us that they can't afford to pay CBA back for their own stuff up. Employees were told they'd get a certain amount as a bonus, and they made plans accordingly. Most have already spent the money.

If a mistake was made before the letters went out, we think that CBA should wear it - not turn around and ask employees to cop it weeks later.

What should we do?

1. First of all, don't sign anything! Don't agree to give any money back just yet!

2. Join the FSU! We will represent our members collectively in this matter and make the case that hard working CBA staff shouldn't have to pay for CBA's mistake. This isn't much money to CBA, but it's a lot to you!

3. The FSU will be holding phone and in-person meetings around the country to hear from you and provide advice around what can be done. Sign up to attend your nearest meeting.

4. Share this website with anyone affected - you can also print a paper version here!
