Reimagine Public Safety. Restore Dignity for All.

Across race, zip code, and background, too many of us share painful experiences—loved ones in mental health crisis met with punishment instead of care, traffic stops that escalate, communities over-policed and under-protected.

The Citizens Coalition for Justice Reform (CCJR)—a grassroots program of United Women of Color—is calling on people from all walks of life to join a bold effort to reimagine what public safety could look like in Huntsville and North Alabama.

We’re building a multiracial, multigenerational coalition rooted in values of community care, accountability, transparency, and dignity. Together, we are:

🔍 Investigating & Gathering Data

  • Community needs around safety, housing, and care

  • Patterns in local policing, arrest data, and jail conditions

  • ICE activity and immigrant protection issues

  • Gaps in mental health response and public legal defense

  • Stories of harm and resilience from impacted residents

📊 Building a People’s Agenda

  • Creating a logic model for justice reform in our region

  • Crafting a platform to present to local and state officials

  • Demanding a citizen oversight board with subpoena power

  • Advocating for mental health alternatives to incarceration

  • Pushing for live crime mapping, incident reporting apps, and public data transparency

🤝 Who We’re Looking For

Whether you’re a parent, pastor, educator, artist, tech worker, returning citizen, student, or just someone who believes in fairness and care—we need you.
