Reimagine Public Safety. Restore Dignity for All.

Across race, age, gender, and zip code, too many of us share a common story—where loved ones in mental health crisis are met with punishment instead of care, where traffic stops turn tragic, and where communities are over-policed and under-protected.
The Citizens Coalition for Justice Reform, a program of United Women of Color, is calling on people of all backgrounds—Black, white, Latinx, Asian, Indigenous; young and elder; cisgender, transgender, and nonbinary—to come together and demand a safer, more just approach to public safety in Huntsville and beyond.
Our mission is clear:
-
Expose policing practices that violate policy and civil rights
-
Reduce violent encounters between police and residents
-
Amplify community-led solutions rooted in safety, compassion, and accountability
In 2020, we submitted 10 concrete reform recommendations to local law enforcement. These were not just policy demands—they were calls to honor the dignity and humanity of our community members. Yet many of those requests remain unanswered.
We believe change starts when the people most impacted come together—across our differences and because of them—to co-create a new vision of public safety that centers healing, not harm.
Whether you’re a parent, a faith leader, a mental health advocate, a returning citizen, or someone who simply believes in fairness and humanity—we need your voice.
