Chobham Manor Resident Parking Zone Survey
Until now, Abercrombie Road and Olympic Park Avenue (north of Honour Lea Avenue) have been private roads, with parking operated privately by PCM. These roads have now been adopted by Newham Council at very short notice to businesses (such as L&Q), councillors and residents.
Throughout this process, your Green Party councillors Nate and Danny have been working incredibly hard to work through the confusion to get clear information from the council on the timeline for adoption and the consequences of this. The council has been incredibly unclear and has not provided the details you would expect.
But we need your help now.
As parking on the newly adopted roads will now be managed by Newham Council, Newham will now be in control of managing the spots that haven't been sold to private owners. Currently, all of Stratford Olympic Park is covered by an 'East Village' Resident Parking Zone (RPZ), limiting parking at most times of the day in most of the spots to permit holders. Only residents in the zone can apply for permits.
The policy has not yet been applied in Chobham Manor because there were previously no public roads, and parking was instead managed by PCM. But unless the council is convinced to create a new RPZ for Chobham Manor, this area will be incorporated into the East Village RPZ. This would mean these non-private parking spots on Abercrombie Road and Olympic Park Avenue will be shared with residents in other parts of the ward.
When we first enquired about plans, we were wrongly told a decision hadn't been made. However, the council recently admitted a decision was actually made ten years ago, and the council is refusing to change their minds.
We want to be led by you. The council claims there are advantages to keeping Chobham Manor inside the East Village RPZ, as Chobham Manor residents would apparently be able to use East Village parking spots. But it works both ways, and East Village residents would be able to park in Chobham Manor. We know residents will rightly have strong feelings about what should happen.
Your views should be central in deciding the future of the area.
Please fill out this survey to let us know whether you think Chobham Manor should remain in the East Village RPZ or if there should be a new Chobham Manor RPZ. Whatever you decide, we will represent your views to the council.
We've already succeeded in convincing PCM to cancel unfair parking fines incorrectly issued after residents were mistakenly informed that adoption had been completed before it actually had, meaning PCM was still operating. We've also been making progress on pushing the council to install new public electric car charging points after most in the area were installed on parking spots sold off to private owners, leaving few available for other users. If you would like to join us in making the case to the council for this, please fill out the form at https://arcg.is/znDfO.
We can't promise to win this fight with the council, but if we can show there are strong views, we just might be able to.
P.S. please fill out the 'other feedback' box with any specific objections you want to make or other feedback about our community. You can also as always email us at nate.higgins@newham.gov.uk and danny.keeling@newham.gov.uk copying us both in.
