Clean Energy Student Lobby Day

Make your voice heard. Make sure Oregon State legislators know that students care about fighting global warming and transitioning our state to a clean energy future!

On February 9th, OSPIRG Student chapters will be hosting a lobby day for students to talk to their legislators and ask them to support the Clean Electricity and Coal Transition Bill, HB 4036. This bill will get Oregon completely off of coal by 2030 and double renewable energy in the state to 50% by 2040!

The morning will start with a lobby training from Environment Oregon staff, a statewide environmental group that is a coalition partner also supporting this bill. Students will then attend meetings that have been scheduled with their legislators and educate them about clean energy issues and ask for their support. Finally in the afternoon students can attend and even testify at the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee meeting.

This is an all day event. The lobby day will start at 9am and go until 5pm. Attendees should plan to be in Salem the whole day. As attendees register will set up carpools and free transportation. Professors will often give excused absences or let students make up classes because they know this is a very educational and rare opportunity! A welcome packet will be sent out with full event details 2/5/16.

[Students who really can only attend a half day should still register and indicate that in the comments section, and we will see if we can put together a carpool group so you can still attend.]
