Our Texas public schools, governed by locally-elected school board members, are the cornerstone of our democracy and the heart of our neighborhoods. However, since state lawmakers first authorized open-enrollment charter schools 30 years ago, unchecked charter expansion has harmed public school districts in every corner of the state. It’s time for Texas parents and the public to have more power over the decisions that impact the education of our children and cost billions of our taxpayer dollars.
