Disclaimer form for site user groups and parents

The Children’s Allotment (TCA) hosts a range of opportunities for families to take part in activities on our site on East Ward Allotment.

Personal safety and liability

By attending, organisers/parents/carers take all responsibility for their own participants and their children's personal safety including:

  • Being on the site at all times to ensure your children / participants are supervised at all times.

  • Supporting children and other participants to maintain their own personal safety including with taking calculated/managed risks e.g. helping them to assess appropriate sized tools or heights to climb to, giving them the opportunity to stand up by themselves when they fall, giving them time to solve problems and overcome obstacles by themselves and in collaboration with others.

  • Ensuring that specific medications or equipment to ensure your own, your participants and your children's’ health are carried at all times and that you can administer them when needed.

  • Bringing your own drinks and snacks which are suitable to give to your own children. Although we encourage sharing of food, if there are any allergies or intolerances to be taken into account, it falls to the parents/carer to ensure their children won’t ingest anything that would cause any adverse reaction.

  • Making the other parents/carers and participants aware of any other allergies and/or adverse reactions (to plants, materials, others) and ensuring that your children don’t come into contact with these.

  • Making another parent or carer of your children aware of this document if they attend in your place.

Safety of the site

The Children’s Allotment site is in active renovation and so it cannot be guaranteed that the site will always be totally safe or risk-free. The Children’s Allotment as an organisation cannot be held responsible for any accidents or injuries that may occur by participating in activities on site. Activity organisers and all participants agree to take joint responsibility for maintaining the safety of the site including:

  • Maintaining the first aid kit and making sure all participants know where to find it

  • Understanding that TCA does not have a duty to provide a first aider at all times and so alternative arrangements must be made e.g. procedure to call an ambulance etc.

  • Reporting any major accidents, injuries etc. immediately to The Children’s Allotment’s Site / Health & Safety Working Group (via Whatsapp or email)

  • Reading, understanding, putting into practice and reviewing the risk assessment if you are organising an activity or event: especially noting

    1. Procedure for sharps/needle disposal if found

    2. Potential risk and procedure for ticks if found

    3. Fire safety e.g. circle, gloves, water bucket etc.
