Sign on to demand Trump respect Tribal sovereignty
Tribes are owed Nation-to-Nation relationships with the federal government, and Native peoples have the inherent right to be full participants in decisions about our lands, waters, and communities.
Instead of fulfilling the federal government’s obligation to respect Tribes’ sovereignty, Trump’s administration is trying to fast-track toxic mining and fossil fuel development on our homelands, bypassing public and Tribal review.
The Department of the Interior recently announced outrageous new guidelines to drastically shorten the environmental review process for fossil fuel and mining projects on our ancestral homelands.
The new procedures take a multi-year process down to a month at most, and give Tribes that are “likely to be affected by a proposed undertaking” a maximum of one week to give input after being notified about it.
The Department of the Interior’s new permitting procedures violate Native peoples’ inherent sovereignty, the U.S. Constitution, and the internationally recognized standard of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent. The federal government must include Tribes in meaningful decision-making processes well before any decision is made about our lands, resources, or people.
Add your name to stop the Trump administration’s outrageous violation of Tribal sovereignty and demand the federal government fulfill its responsibility to respect Tribes’ self-determination.
