VOCAL is an organization dedicated to uplifting the most disenfranchised among us, such as HIV-positive people and the homeless. They provide invaluable services and resources to populations that are now the most vulnerable during COVID-19, like the street homeless, the immuno-compromised, and people of color.
If you are fortunate enough to be housed and have an income during this pandemic, please join us in donating your stimulus check to VOCAL. Your donation will ensure they can continue providing critical services to our most marginalized neighbors.
VOCAL has immediate work to support our community and prevent further spread of COVID-19. This includes:
• Reaching out to members, many of whom are at-risk of serious complications from
COVID-19, to walk them through appropriate safety and hygiene measures, teach them how
to address any rising health concerns, and develop plans to self-quarantine if they are at risk.
• Distributing basic medical & hygiene supplies to members, many of whom are street-based
or live in shelters
• Staying in contact with members to address potential issues/complications arising from
continued social isolation.
• Maintaining a sense of community for our members, including continuing to engage them on
political action to become part of the solution (signing petitions, completing the census, calling
elected officials, etc.)
• Preparing the community to respond to COVID-19 related abuses & advocacy needs. Our staff is regularly in contact with low-income people living with HIV, people who use drugs, people who are
homeless, and those impacted by incarceration. History tells us these same populations will
be left behind by whatever solutions are put forth in the coming months and days, and
advocacy will be necessary to ensure their health and safety is prioritized.
