Thank you for your interest and anticipated commitment in becoming an Executive Board Director of the Disability Working Group! Please fill out this application, answering each question to the best of your ability.

Expectation Statement:

By submitting this application you are agreeing to do your best to fulfill the duties of a Board Director, such as attending meetings regularly, serving and performing on committees, assisting executive officers (steering committee officers), representing the DWG, and any other duties assigned or prescribed. You agree to do your best to remain an active member and work collaboratively and constructively with the other Executive Board members.

Please refer to the relevant Articles and Sections in our recently updated Bylaws of the Disability Working Group of the Democratic Socialists of America, cited below, for additional details.

Article VII, section 1:

Board Composition. The Officers of the Society, including the Directors, shall constitute the Executive Board.
No more than six (6) Officers may self-identify as non-Disabled.
No more than eight (8) may self-identify as male.
No more than eight (8) may self-identify as white.


Article VII, section 2:

Board’s Duties and Powers. The Executive Board shall have general supervision of the affairs of the Society between its business meeting, fix the dates, hours and places of meetings, prepare business and make recommendations to the Society for its consideration; and such other duties applicable to the Board as prescribed by the parliamentary authority adopted by the Society.

Article V, section 7:

Directors. One (1) year term, a Member of the Executive Board elected by online vote conducted by National DSA on behalf of the Society, as outlined in these bylaws. In addition to performance of any additional duties assigned to them as a Member of the Executive Board, a Director shall attend meetings regularly; may make motions and vote upon business; perform Executive Officer duties in any such position they have been elected; serve and perform on Committees, including as its presiding officer, as assigned; assist the Executive Officers; review and approve applications for membership, when forwarded by the Recording Secretary; may act as an official delegate, representative or executive on behalf of the Society by temporary appointment of the Chair, be made official with a ⅔ vote of the Executive Board or Steering Committee at the next scheduled meeting, or a majority vote in a Regular Meeting of members of the Society; and such other duties applicable to the office as prescribed by the parliamentary authority adopted by the Society.

Article IV, section 7:

Vacancies. In the case of vacancy of any position on the Executive Board, the remaining members of the Executive Board may appoint an interim replacement from within the commissions’ ranks, pending final approval from the NPC; or vacancies may be filled by NPC appointment directly, in consultation with the Society.

While awaiting final approval or direct appointment from NPC, replacement appointees may perform any administrative duties in an acting, interim capacity and may preside over meetings when expected to do so -- but shall not vote on the Executive Board, nor have their vote recorded as official, unless they are already presently an elected member of the Society in one of the other Officer positions.
