Enough: End the Dashain Animal Sacrifice Festival

For countless animals, Nepal’s celebrated Dashain Festival becomes a festival of death.

Help ARM stop it.

This October 18 and 19th, goats, buffaloes, sheep and other animals will be publicly sacrificed in the name of religion and tradition. Animals endure grueling transport and brutal handling before being restrained, clubbed, hacked and decapitated at temples, in streets and at homes.

Animal Recovery Mission has investigated and campaigned against this cruelty for years. We’ve documented some of the worst treatment of animals on the planet—and still, year after year, the bloodshed continues.

Even Nepal’s government remains involved.

Government bodies have long supplied animals for ritual sacrifice during Dashain. Hundreds of goats and buffaloes are arranged for sacrifice at shrines and temples, including animals provided for ceremonies conducted on behalf of the nation.

This continues despite a clear warning from Nepal’s own Supreme Court.

It directed government authorities to discourage sacrifice, promote alternatives and prevent cruel and inhumane treatment of animals.

Yet, animals are still being sacrificed—and government agencies are still helping supply them.

Enough.

MAKE LAST YEAR THE LAST YEAR.

With the sacrifice beginning October 18, there is no time to waste.

Demand that Nepal end government support for animal sacrifice, replace government-sponsored killing with compassionate symbolic offerings, and take meaningful action toward ending animal sacrifice nationwide.
