Donald Trump and this Congress have thrown out the rulebook and are planning to redraw congressional lines to divide us and amass their own power.

The Texas government rammed through a new congressional map and other states could follow. Prop 50, the Election Rigging Response Act, puts the power in the hands of California voters to fight back and defend democracy. The proposed map is temporary and compliant with the Voting Rights Act.

We’re witnessing this fascist federal political establishment incite fear. They attack immigrants who are our community members, students, friends, and family.

They’re undermining higher education by revoking visas, withholding grant funding, and stifling academic freedom. They’re even arresting our union siblings

They passed a budget that rips healthcare away from millions of working people to line the pockets of billionaires.

This Congress capitulates, strips away, and serves the wealthy few.

But the next Congress can be different.
The next Congress can check authoritarian power.
The next Congress can defend immigrants, students, and faculty.
The next Congress can protect healthcare and academic freedom.

California didn’t ask to be at the center of this national fight. But here we are. And the choice before us is clear: put a check on fascism or accept it.
