The joint appeal of 16 political prisoners with combined sentences of 41 years has proven to be a defining moment for peaceful protest in the United Kingdom. Over 1,000 people sat peacefully in the road, undeterred by police intimidation, in solidarity with the ‘Lord’ Walney 16, and in the largest act of civil disobedience seen in many years in the UK.
