You might be eligible for one of Yorkshire Water’s bill support tariffs.

These are for customers who:

·   Have a particular reliance on water, for example due to health conditions
·   Receive income assessed support
·   Have a low household income and have more than one dependent child, or larger household occupancy levels
·   Are in debt with Yorkshire Water or another utility

Last month, I called on Yorkshire Water to lower prices for residents in my constituency after they announced a scandalous £47 retrospective charge for "sewage charges".

And last week, I met with the chief executives of Yorkshire Water to present these concerns in person. As a result of that meeting, I have secured a ‘fast-track’ for residents in my constituency to have their account and personal circumstances reviewed and see if they’re eligible.

By filling out the form with your name, address, phone number and email, and a little bit about your personal circumstances, I will share this information with Yorkshire Water, who have guaranteed to me that they will call every resident to discuss if they are eligible for bill support.

This unexpected additional charge continues to be, frankly, disgraceful. With prices high right now, people need to be able to plan ahead – unforeseen costs cause stress and force people to make tough decisions elsewhere.

Moreover, such a mistake is particularly frustrating given Yorkshire Water's repeated failure to upgrade local infrastructure. Burst pipes and flooding are a monthly occurrence for many homes in Rotherham – and Yorkshire Water has too often failed to take responsibility.

This is a modest but important step forward to getting everyone's bills down – Yorkshire Water estimates 2/3 of their customers may be paying more than they should - a disparity I want to fix locally.

They also explained that if your house has more bedrooms than people living there you can probably save money by opting for a water meter.

If you find that you are paying more on a water meter, you have two years from the date of installation to change your mind and be put back on your old billing system.
