Get Involved Before the Pedernales Electric Co-op Shuts Down Solar for Good
In December, the Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) board of directors voted to adopt new rates and fees for members who chose to use solar at their homes. The result will be massive rate increases for those who already have solar and discouraging other co-op members from getting solar going forward. Not only will bills increase, they will be much more confusing for members to understand, with two new demand charges and time-of-use rates.
PEC staff put these proposals forward because they claim that members with solar aren't paying their fair share, but they haven't shown any data to actually prove that. As members are learning about these new policies, they are speaking out. Several organizations with supporters who are PEC members are helping to organize and coordinate those who oppose these attacks on solar. Public Citizen, Clean Water Action, Texas Solar Energy Society, Sierra Club, Solar United Neighbors and Jolt are working alongside PEC members to gather information and advocate for fair rates that don't punish members who use solar.
