This is a defining moment for peaceful protest in the United Kingdom. The proscribing of direct action groups as “terrorist organisations” is a major assault on democracy and everyone’s rights to freedom of expression.
Since Yvette Cooper and the UK Government brought in the ban on Palestine Action just weeks ago, over a hundred people have been arrested under the Terrorism Act - for such “offences” as holding a sign, wearing a t-shirt, or putting a poster in their window. We have also seen footage of officers suggesting that any support for Palestine constitutes a terrorism offence.
We will not comply with anti-democratic laws. We call on the UK Government to Lift The Ban.
