We are a group of UAW retirees who have held elective office in our locals and/or been union reform activists in various solidarity campaigns. We came together in a joint México Solidarity Project/Labor Notes committee to strengthen the ties between auto workers in the US, Canada, and México, and  worked with the new grassroots union, SINTTIA, at GM in Silao, México, which recently won its own fight to oust a corrupt top-down union. Now, we're garnering support for auto parts workers at VU Manufacturing in Piedras Negras, where the independent union La Liga won representation, but are fighting for a contract. We feel that the new leadership of the UAW will lead to stronger ties between auto workers across national boundaries.
