Have you requested a Meeting or a Town Hall with Senator Collins?
A NYT opinion piece on 4/18 stated that Senator Collins was listening to Mainers. Many Mainers believe and are concerned that Senator Collins is NOT listening to them and seek to meet with her in a Town Hall or a Listening Session akin to the one held by Senator King.
Mainers for Accountable Leadership defines one aspect of "Accessible" as "holding regular meetings and town halls with constituents." Dozens of other Maine groups agree. Thousands of Mainers do as well.
In the past months Mainers attended rallies requesting a Town Hall, MFAL led Open Air Town Halls, MFAL asked Senator Collins three times in a meeting with her to attend a Town Hall and she did not respond once. We've witnessed other Maine groups like Bangor Indivisible, MDI Indivisible, Midcoast Indivisible, Suit Up Maine, Maine Rise Up! Be Heard request a Town Hall. We've admired groups invite the Senator and persisting by holding the event without her. Over 600 Individual Mainers signed on to a letter organized by Maine Rise Up! Be Heard! and published in the Bangor Daily News requesting a Town Hall. MFAL and Maine People's Alliance submitted a Petition with almost 1000 signatures requesting a Town Hall. We've seen other petitions!
Right now, Mainers want a Town Hall as a chance for Senator Collins to listen. Senator Collins said, “We have to stop talking past each other.” And, on the issue of listening and the forum for Mainers to be listened to Senator Collins is talking past Maine.
MFAL, x group, y group does not know all the requests and it's time we began tracking them.
We need to know how the request was made, how long the wait for a response was, if you were offered a meeting instead of a Town Hall and how many requests you or your group has submitted.
We need to join together indivisible and track our efforts. We can then join in a collective response and a collective request.
Please only fill out if you have submitted an individual request or are a leader/named representative of a group or Organization.
Let's organize!
Nevertheless, Mainers Persist!
Onward!
