Have your say on Stafford Green Councillor Priorities
The areas we are looking at come under three headings: Governance, Planning and Climate Change. Within those there are a number of particular areas which we would like to specifically address.
The feedback form on the right allows you to comment on the general areas, or to specifically go through each of the points we've collated to put forward your thoughts on each of them.
Governance
· A move away from the cabinet system where 8 councillors make many of the decisions to a committee based structure.
· A proportional apportionment of positions on outside bodies
· Enter into the ‘Fair Tax Pledge’ which has already been signed by Cannock to ensure fair business taxation.
Planning
Influence the Local plan to ensure that:
· Further agreed house development recognises the significant previously agreed developments
· Improve the infrastructure needed to support the people who are moving to the area to live in the new homes.
· Increase the overall sustainability of all new build properties beyond the minimums currently used – ideally to passivhaus standards.
and
· Adjust the Station Gateway to protect existing biodiversity and increase the number of trees beyond the statutory minimum and that flood mitigation, active travel and through traffic is coordinated and planned across the whole development, and that the development is as sustainable as possible.
· Direct investment to revitalise the town centre.
Climate Change
· A budget and staff devoted to achieving Net Zero carbon, sustainability and Nature Renewal
· Bring forward the target for Zero Carbon from 2040 to 2030 or as far forward as possible
· Have a series of interim targets for Carbon reduction with a plan to how this will be achieved
· Progress to be reported by the Cabinet Member in bi-annual reports audited by the Advisory Committee on Climate Change.
· Raise the recycling rate to at least 70%
· Include climate impact assessment as part of the procurement process
· All Council decisions to be assessed for impact on carbon reduction and nature renewal
· Divest from fossil fuel investments in a staged and orderly way
