Housing is a Human Right

I don’t think it can be said enough: Housing is a human right.

But too many New York families struggle every month to pay for their basic necessities, including housing, the most essential household expense of all. Even worse, homelessness in NYC is at its highest point since the Great Depression.

People show me substandard, and even dangerous, conditions that no one should have to deal with. They’re forced to live in damaged and decaying homes that make them fear for the health and safety of their kids.

This isn’t acceptable -- it’s straight up inhumane. Kids are sleeping in freezing apartments with no heat -- while at the same time, a quarter of the luxury apartments built in NYC since 2013 sit vacant.

The only way to solve this problem is through a Homes Guarantee -- one that I’ll fight for just as I did as City Council Speaker.

There’s so much more we can do: If I elected, I’ll:

  • End tax breaks for corporate developers and provide tax breaks to local homeowners

  • Fight to end homelessness expanding federal housing assistance

  • Enact a national rent control and prevent billionaires from controlling the market

Finding a solution to affordable housing is complicated -- but I’m confident we can do it. If you agree, I need you by my side.

Please sign my petition and let’s make the Bronx an affordable place for New Yorkers to live.
