Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick lied to the American people about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

After meeting in 2005, Lutnick claimed: “I was never in the room with [Epstein] socially, for business or even philanthropy. If that guy was there, I wasn’t going because he’s gross.”

The Epstein files have revealed numerous connections, including a visit to Epstein’s island and an occasion where Lutnick left his phone behind in Epstein’s apartment -- even after Epstein had been convicted of sex trafficking.

But it’s no surprise that Howard Lutnick lied -- he has spent his year as Commerce Secretary abusing the public trust, enriching himself and his family.

Until becoming Commerce Secretary, Lutnick ran Wall Street megafirm Cantor Fitzgerald. When he accepted Trump’s appointment, Lutnick left the firm in the hands of his sons, leading the New York Times to write an article titled “Family Affair: Commerce Secretary’s Sons Cash In on A.I. Frenzy.”

The pattern appears clear. Lutnick uses his role as Commerce Secretary to broker deals for foreign investment in data centers or rare earth materials, then his sons swoop in to provide financing -- pocketing millions of dollars in fees in the process.

Elected officials from both parties are now calling for Lutnick to resign. We need to ratchet up the pressure to send a message that this will not blow over.
